Margate is a fabulous coastal location for sailing with 2 beautiful sandy beaches ensuring sailing can happen anytime, whatever the state of the tides.
High tides allow sailing in the bay area with the harbour arm offering protection from the elements for those getting started, or you can venture further out into deeper water and explore the Thanet coast as you sail along. Low tide is no problem as we can launch from outside the harbour and sail a little further round the coast.
Margate Yacht Club is a lovely family orientated sailing club with plenty of friendly faces who just love to see people out sailing. Don't be surprised if we are joined out on the water by a club member who spots us out there sailing!
Plenty of double handed and single handed dinghies to choose from with a brand new clubhouse to use for changing and a hot cuppa after your sailing exploits. Plenty of wet-suits and buoyancy aids to chose from too.
St Andrew's Lakes
Operating out of St Andrew's Watersports
St Andrew's Lakes is one of the most beautiful inland locations to go sailing. An old chalk quarry and impressive depth results in crystal clear water and the most stunning of azure blues. The tree clad high cliffs on 3 sides can create challenging conditions for sailing dependent on the wind direction, but skills that can be mastered here are invaluable.
Sailing can occur all year round at St Andrew's Lake, with no tides or sea state needed to be taken into consideration. This makes it a perfect place to start learning the basics in a sheltered environment or to continue sailing throughout the Winter months if we can't get out on the sea.
The commercial nature of this location means we can share the water with, paddle-boarders, pedalos, kayaks and canoes. The friendly and always helpful staff at St Andrew's lake are always ready with a smile and keen to hear of your sailing triumphs.
Changing rooms, wet-suits and buoyancy aids and that all important cuppa are all available on site.
